Hello, my name is Alex, and I am the curator of Battlefield Soil. I hope you find this website to be of interest!

I created this website because I am a huge military history nerd. I thought it would be interesting to own something real from the most famous battles of history. If you’ve found my website, hopefully, you think having a piece of history that you can touch is kind of cool too.

For reasons of cost and availability, it isn’t terribly realistic for me (and many others) to own weapons, armor, or uniforms from these battles, but it is possible to own something tangible, at a reasonable price... the soil and sand where these battles occurred and where brave people shed their blood and lost their lives.

I'm originally from Southern England, but now that I have retired I split my time between England and United States. I’m starting small with this website. The town of Battle (the site of the Battle of Hastings) and Pevensey, where William the Conqueror’s forces first landed in Britain, are local to me so it makes sense to begin there and widen things out if I get the necessary interest.

I think that the five D-Day Beaches of Normandy, the main sites of The English Civil War and Wars of the Roses, and the major battles of the US Civil War are likely to be my next collections. Tell me here which battlefields you would like to own sand or soil from, and I'll try my best to accommodate the most popular choices.

Battlefield Soil was founded on a simple belief: that the earth itself carries memory.

Across centuries, pivotal moments unfolded upon fields, ridges, plains, and shores. The ground beneath those events bore witness to decisions, sacrifice, transformation, and consequence. While books preserve narrative and museums preserve artifacts, the land remains the silent constant.

This company exists to respectfully preserve small, documented samples of earth from historically significant regions, presented as educational and commemorative keepsakes.

We do not view soil as a commodity, we view it as context because history lives in silent soil.
